Goat milk farm
Araucanía
We are a Chilean/Australian couple with 5 tourist cabins on 7 hectares at the foot of the Andes mountains. and some 20-30 milk goats. We also have another 120 hectares in the mountains that is our conservation property. Our labours are divided between the cabins, goats and property maintenance. We accept one or two people. if children are involved we would need to discuss the arrangements as to how it would work. Volunteers live with us in the shed which we are transforming into a house. We don´t accept pets. Work may include the following: helping to clean and maintain the cabins e.g. cleaning inside after guests leave, painting, carpentry, design, build & maintain gardens, look after the goats and chickens, fencing, chainsaw work, collect firewood from the mountain property, split firewood, collect kindling, collect fruit in season, building storage sheds, control weeds (manually). All wwoofers are expected to contribute to preparing meals & washing up. We produce goat milk , ice cream and cheese in season for our own consumption, and sale. We cannot claim organic status as not all animal feed obtained is organic. We are 8 hours by bus from Santiago or 2-3 hours from Temuco (where there is an airport & sometimes cheap flights from Santiago). We are 3 km east of the township of Malalcahuello along route 181: If coming by car you need to leave Route 5 freeway at the Victoria turn-off and follow Route 181 towards Lonquimay.
Organic methods: hand weeding, manual control of weeds. Biological control of insects and parasites with chickens. We are currently trying to attract owls to do our rodent control and a few of the neighbour´s 14 something cats also stray onto our property to do their bit.
Certifications: not organic certified but we don´t use herbicide and are transitioning to pesticide free for rodent control
Current projects: We always need help in summer with chainsaw firewood preparation and are prepared to pay for approximately 2 weeks of this work for anyone with good experience in use of chainsaw and cutting fallen hardwood timber.
Other jobs include maintenance jobs such as painting sheds, house, cabin; constructing and maintaining the recycled bottle greenhouse; weed control; and all the other things in the list.

I had an amazing time with Lavinia and Fernando! I directly felt at home and part of the family. My tasks varied everyday from taking care of the goats to cleaning cabañas, I never got bored and I’ve learned a lot. Moreover, I could enjoy a free day to go for a hike near Volcano Lonquimay! Thank you so much!

Our stay with Lavinia was really nice. Our chores were mostly carpentry work, but also cleaning the goats and feeding the baby goats, cooking and preparing firewood. Lavinia lent us bikes so we were able to explore the nice area around. On our day off we could hike in the national park. It was also great that we could try some of the delicious goat milk ice cream and cheese. The people at the farm are all really nice, we are happy that we could stay there.

My stay at Chile Wild was nothing but an amazing experience. Lavinia and Fernando brought me in with open arms and treated me like family. The food they prepared everyday was delicious and the accommodations were better then I had expected. I was cutting firewood and would spend a few days camping alone, and they provided more then enough supply's to make me feel at home and comfortable. Their hospitatily and generosity was nothing short of spectacular and I hope I have an opportunity to come back and help out again at some point. 10/10
