Family farm
Los Lagos
WHO ARE WE ?
I am african and french woman, Leo is chilean and our 9 years old daughter Deynaye, is Canadian.
GRANJA AYÜN is the name of our farm.
Indigenous name that means querer in spanish
To Care, to love.
We choose that name just as to remember our objectif to respect the people, Mother Nature, the animals.
A few years after crossing Americas from Alaska to Patagonia on a motor home we have decided to establish here in the South of Chile.
Leo and I had founded this amazing "little" place from a retired farmer in May 2021.
Since then, we worked a lot trying to reorganize the farm..
Leo is working in coral restoration and he dedicates time raising chickens, looking after the animals.. Leo likes to look after the bees.
WE have about 450 chickens, around 23 goats, 2 sheeps, 70 ducks , Nala our dog and 2 generation of cat .
I dedicate myself to milking and producing.
Soap, Jams, Dulce de leche, vinagre, infusion, cheese, craft soap, hashes soap and more.
We've been identifying plants available to dry them and elaborate infusion blends.
We grow Caléndula, Peppermint, matico, lemon verbena...
We need help maintaining the farm.
We planted wheat and oat in a large area to provide grains to our animals.
Organic methods:
We are using animal manure from the cleaning of their home to fertilize our plantation and we are producing our own potting soil to use on our seed management.
We are sourcing ancient and traditional seeds to plant in our garden.
We have our orchard filled with apple, plum, cherry tree., murta, maqui etc. We planted Chiloté garlic.
We use goat milk, (I milk them myself by hand) to make soap and dulce de leche.
We do our own keffir yogurt using the milk offered by our precious goats.
I train every woofer so they are fully able to milk the goats by the end of their stay.
I also teach how to elaborate homemade cheese.
Leo elaborated a system to connect the rain water in our bathroom to reduce our water consumption in the house .
Every step that brings us closer to self- sufficiency is a step that we are willing to take.
Certifications:
We are not certified and we probably won't because I believe that what we do at the farm goes way beyond organic.
Current projects:
Our objectif is to have a little place that provide local people with the products elaborated in our farm, respecting the Land that was loaned to us by Mother Earth, respecting animals that are leaving among us and respecting the people who enjoy our products.
We would like in the near future to open our doors to children through school visit and family that want to understand that we can produce food with good practices, respecting our Land.
We are eager to prove to all the people that told us when we arrived in the area that nothing will grow without spreading a good amount of chemicals that they are wrong.
In winter, gathering firewood for heating our home is important.
We are always improving our fences for the goat security.
We treat our guest with a lot of care.
We like to treat them with quality meals.
I like to teach by doing.
So here expect to leave the place knowing how to make cheese, milk a goat, make vinegar, built a furniture or something.
Our house is known to be a laboratory....so expect to try and discover on your own too .....This is the best way to learn.
What I expect from the woofers:
Curious, willing to learn, willing to help.
Capacity to care for others.
I am willing to show you or to teach you only if you are genuinely interested about it.
It is best to be fit and have a good physical condition.
If you are lazy and have difficulty to wake up early, it is best to choose another type of free accomodation.
Although I very much like cooking, at the farm we rotate and very often we cook together.
So we expect to taste your cooking talent as well as ours.
Whoever cooks , the other makes the favour of doing the dishes.
Collaboration is the key.
Also speaking spanish IS very important for us, although I speak french and English.
Thank you and See you soon.

Thanks for being that Mac Gyver that I was missing.
I think dealing with the goat was not always easy.
At least they teach us to be persistant I guess....

Our visit was an experience I will never forget. Laurance, Leo, and Deynaye welcomed us into their home and shared practices that make their farm truly self-sustaining for all who live there. Each meal was a feast of the farm's bounty and other local ingredients - freshly gathered eggs, apple juice, apple cider vinegar, jams and honey, fresh seafood and more. We cared for the chickens, goats, and cows living on the farm, repaired a fence, painted posts, and helped prepare a greenhouse for planting. We made laundry soap from ashes and pine-infused water, made jam and bread, and learned to prepare Chilean dishes. Nothing is wasted. I will forever be grateful for the knowledge, culture, and experiences that were lavished on us. Anyone visiting this farm will come away enriched and empowered.
