Family farm
Magallanes
We are a diverse family (5 at the moment, Benjamin, Mateo , Dani, Nahuel, and Caro) that live in a 1 hectare organic farm in Rio Seco, a coastal location nearby the city of Punta Arenas, Chile. We grow all sorts of vegetables in greenhouses and outdoors; considering the high latitude and harsh (but lovely) weather conditions we live in. We also raise animals such as pigs, or a cow depending on the season, about 60 chickens, and ducks, plus two dogs and two cats!
We produce our own organic fertilizers, which is the main core of our farm fertility, and manage pest control with ecological and low environmental impact technologies. Our main goal as a farm is to contribute to our local food sovereignty through the ways of agroecology, sharing experiences, and learning from each other, together with practicing a healthier lifestyle.

I had an incredible time with Benja and the gang (humans and animals, and of course plants!) in Río Seco. Ben and his brother have created a really amazing place at their farm and I feel lucky to have spent time there. The work is satisfying and diverse, I practised my Spanish, met lots of people, learnt a lot, ate well, and overall enjoyed myself AND felt like I contributed - which to me is the beauty of WWOOFing. Benja is an extraordinary, warm person and host and he went out of his way to make sure we all had a great time- from running together, to camping, pizzas, music and singing. I feel full of gratitude for my time at this farm.

My first WWOOF experience was much more than just volunteering: it was a true school of life.
From the very first day, I was given a concrete, daily trust: Ben entrusted me with feeding the two little lambs on the farm every day, whom I ended up naming Yucky and Ginger. A simple gesture, but one that made me feel like an integral part of the place and its life.
Ben is an extraordinary person: open, generous, empathetic, and always willing to teach and share his knowledge. Thanks to him, I learned so much about agriculture and how important it is to work in a conscious and respectful way with nature. He also taught me woodworking, a hobby that I will carry with me back to Italy.
Ben, his family (including Moro and Larson) and his friends opened their home to me, making me feel safe and comfortable from the very first moment, even though I was on the other side of the ocean. With them, I experienced a true cultural exchange full of sharing, laughter and small daily gestures that I won’t forget (including making pasta for all).
I return home with a rich and full backpack: new skills, deep emotions, new (vegetarian) recipes, new hobbies, a new playlist, and even a new tattoo 🐋
I recommend this experience to anyone who is not just looking for a place to work, but for a place to grow, learn, and feel welcomed as part of a family.

I stayed with Benja and his brother Mateo (and his family) for the past four weeks, and this has to be one of (if not THE number one) best spots to WWOOF in the world. What stood out most were four things:
(1) The other WWOOFers and I were welcomed into the family as if we were one of their own. We shared every meal with them, short weekend trips and excursions, even invited to gatherings with their friends. And the food is creative, healthy, and often uses vegetables/fruits picked on the farm that day (or eggs laid the night before).
(2) I got to work with so many different fruits and vegetables including lettuce, peas, tomatoes, potatoes, garlic, apples, beans, cabbage, etc. It was sunny and clear almost every day (in the summer when I was there), and the variety of work made every day new and interesting.
(3) The accommodations are cozy, clean, and perfect. Great heating, hot water, WiFi, etc. And the house itself is inspiring -- full of hand-made spoons and bowls, plants, instruments, and two friendly pets.
(4) The farm is located ~50 meters Strait of Magellan, and the family room window looks out over the massive blue body of water into infinite beauty. Whales frequently come through the strait and you can see them. Can't think of a more beautiful spot.
I'll never forget the 4 weeks I spent in Punta Arenas with this lovely family, and will be recommending many friends come down to work with Benja and his family. If you're considering WWOOFing, this is the spot.

This was a very complete experience : the work in the farm was varied (seeding, harvesting, repairing fences...) ; and Benjamin made us visit many amazing places in the surroundings (a skeletton museum for example). I can only recommand!

My partner and I had the best time at Ben's farm! We did not expect WWOOFing to be the highlight of our trip through South America. We felt welcomed by Ben, his friends and family from the moment we arrived. The work was varied and interesting, and we can safely say we learnt alot, particularly about the principles of organic farming and how Ben applies this in his own project. We loved the sense of community we felt while working on the farm, it was refreshing having come from the big smoke of Santiago.
