My time at Bodega Erasmo was amazing. Javier and Josefa are absolutely incredible, generous, kind, funny, awesome people and I learned SO much. I participated in grape harvest for my first couple days, spent the next couple weeks working in the bodega (remontage, temp & density readings, cleaning, etc.), and my last 2 weeks helping to create a permaculture garden design for a small section of their property. What drew me here was their dedication to regenerative agriculture (the wine was a big bonus of course!) and I learned much more than I could have imagined. If you are interested in wine making or farming with an ecological focus (or BOTH!) this place is where you need to be!!!! Just cross your fingers that Monique will show up while you're there ;-) Thank you Javier & Josefa!

We spontaneously applied for Volunteering at this vineyard and luckily got accepted. After traveling a decent amount of time going with bus and taxi (the Vinery is far from any bigger settlement) we arrived at Calivoro and entered a little paradise, greeted by very excited and friendly dogs. We learned a lot about the wine making process and took a part in a lot of steps. From harvesting to destemming the grapes, Remontage and Pisoneo, pressing and the most important: enjoying the final product! We also were involved in lab work, taking samples and running tests on fermenting wine. The vinery is also involved in fermentation of apples so expect to be involved in this too. Depending on the season it could get quite busy so expect to work long hours. The coworkers were incredibly friendly and teached us a lot, even took us to their home and ride their horses. The vineyard‘s owners are super nice, too. We were treated as part of the family, taken to family and friends meeting and parties. The surrounding area is splendid. A swim in a river is a 10 minutes walk away, the parents of Javier have a boat if you are into kayaking. The hill behind the bodega offers great views to the Andes if hiked on. Our Co-Volunteers (we were four in total) were super nice too and we managed to have a very good time together. And we haven’t even started to write about the wine made here. But we have to leave some surprises for you! So, you are looking for the place to volunteer? Look no further!

Javier and Josefina have the sweetest family farm, but to call this place just a vineyard making excellent wines would be unfair. This place is practically a nature conservation organization. We have worked and volunteered in nature conservation organizations in Turkey for many years, and we say this knowing what it truly means. Javier is deeply aware that he is a part of nature itself, and they produce grapes in harmony with nature, far beyond just organic farming. Javier looks at the ants, bugs, flies, bees, cow dung, weeds, and flowers within the vineyard with great love and cherishes them all as a whole. When we think of him proudly speaking about his vineyard, it brings tears to our eyes—there is so much you can learn from him. In fact, you’re coming not to a vineyard, but to a nature school. Their wines are very delicious and clearly made with passion; we tasted wines as flavorful as we’ve never had before in Chile. They were very attentive and generous in making us feel comfortable. If we didn’t have our own plans and dreams, we would want to live and work with them on their farm for years. We hope to be able to visit them again and hope that life rewards them with as much beauty as they deserve.

If you're looking for the best Chilean experience, Caliboro is the place where you'll find it. We spent 1 month there and there's so much more to say. First the place : Caliboro is a world apart. It feels timeless, but that's what makes it so beautiful. Whether it's the river Perquilauquen, the view of the Cordillera and its snow-capped volcanoes, the vineyards, the colours, the sky at night , yeah in short, everything is here. The work is top and the atmosphere with the team is great, you'll never feel left out, it's like being part of a big family. Apart from all that, you can make kayak, cycle, watch the sunsets over the nearby hills, etc. And finally, all the people are lovely, and you'll be able to learn more about the erasmo estate, from the practices to the winemaking and the final product, the wines (which are incredible, we have to admit, allowing for the best in Chile). Many thanks to everyone at Erasmo: Javier, Josefa, Rodolfo, Kaco, Emilia, Cecilia, Daniela, Sophie, Augusto, Don Leon and all the other people we met. PS : A love of wine and beer is a big plus if you want to come to Erasmo (especially the Cristal). And finally, keyline is life.
