Native plant nursery and community gardening in Patagonia
Aysén
We are a small team of passionate people living in the southernmost region of Chilean Patagonia, in the remote village of Cochrane. Our project, run by a non-profit organization, focuses on the regeneration of native ecosystems through community gardens, native plant nurseries, and educational landscapes. Most of us work in environmental education, landscaping, and native species propagation. We live surrounded by mountains, forests, and on the shore of one of the most beautiful lakes in Patagonia. We share the land with an organic farm, a few children, a friendly dog, and many wild birds.
Our daily activities include seed collection, growing native plants, preparing soil, planting in public spaces, and designing ecological gardens. Depending on the season, you might help with nursery tasks, garden maintenance, or even co-hosting workshops for children and local communities. We love to share knowledge about Patagonian flora, ecological restoration, and hands-on techniques for creating resilient landscapes. A typical day might involve morning tasks in the nursery, a shared lunch, and an afternoon spent planting or walking through the steppe to learn and teach about wild species.
WWOOFers stay in a small cabin with basic amenities, or you can camp during the warmer months. We usually have a cook who prepares meals on workdays, and we eat together with the team from the organic farm we share the land with. Vegetarian options are always available, and our meals are simple but nourishing, using local and organic ingredients.
In your free time, we encourage you to explore nearby national parks, wild rivers, ancient forests, and connect with our vibrant local community. If you're curious about native ecosystems, outdoor learning, and creative environmental action, you'll feel right at home.
